Raj Pink diamond to be sold at Sotheby’s auction

Continuing on the Pink October vibe, we discovered that Sotheby’s will sell at auction in November a large pink diamond estimated to be worth between $20 million and $30 million.

The Raj Pink diamond, considered the largest fancy diamond of intense pink colour in the world, weighs 37.30 carats and according to Sotheby’s may exceed the estimated value.

Over a year before being cut to perfection

The extraordinary Raj Pink was discovered in 2015 and its cutting lasted more than a year of studies until a master cutter decided for its cut, creating a lapidation with modified and brilliant facets. Its facets were designed to hide imperfections, and so the diamond has a clarity grade of VS1, which is impressive for a stone of its great size.

The beautiful diamond will be the top piece of the Sotheby’s Geneva Magnificent and Noble Jewels lot to be auctioned on 15th November. The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) described the diamond as an “astonishing stone” and its hue as “a very bright, ravishing and intense fancy pink colour”.

The Raj Pink received this name, which means “king” in Sanskrit, from its current owner, who insists on remaining anonymous.
